The base for Breton's growing economy is agriculture (grains, cattle, horses, elk, wild pig and ostrich farms, and market gardens), oilfield activity and logging.

Reported in the Brazeau County Business Visitation Initiative 2014, some interesting comments were seen concerning the export market of businesses in the County, Town of Drayton Valley, and Village of Breton. Perhaps most surprising is that despite the low overall number of respondents surveyed in the Village of Breton, 1 of 12 businesses exports (to the United States, Mexico and South America), a larger proportion than Brazeau, where 1 in 23 companies export, and larger than Drayton Valley where 1 in 24 exports. It may be coincidence, but based on current amounts, Breton appears more export oriented than the other two regions.
