Village Council

The Village of Breton is governed by an elected Mayor and four Councillors who provide leadership, set municipal policy, and guide the community’s short- and long-term direction. Council fulfills the legislative function of the municipal government, oversees bylaws and strategic planning, and holds regular public meetings to ensure transparency and community engagement.

Council works to ensure that decisions support the sustainability, growth, and overall well-being of the Village of Breton.

Roles and Responsibilities of Council

Village Council is responsible for:

  • Establishing municipal policies and priorities

  • Providing leadership and strategic direction

  • Approving bylaws and resolutions

  • Overseeing municipal finances and budgets

  • Supporting the long-term vision of the community

  • Council operates in accordance with provincial legislation and municipal procedures.

Council Meetings

Regular council meetings provide an opportunity for residents to stay informed about municipal decisions and community matters.

Council meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Carolyn Strand Civic Centre. Members of the public are welcome to attend all regular Council meetings.

Meeting dates and times may change as required. Residents are encouraged to review meeting notices and agendas for the most current information.

Council may establish committees to support specific areas of municipal governance and community development. These committees help provide focused attention, recommendations, and support on matters important to the Village of Breton.

Strategic
Plan

The Strategic Plan 2021–2025 plays an important role in community sustainability and long-term planning. It provides direction to Council and municipal staff as they allocate available resources and work toward a shared vision for the future of the Village of Breton.

The Strategic Plan helps guide decision-making and prioritization across municipal operations and initiatives.

Municipal 
Elections

Municipal elections in Alberta are held every four years in accordance with the Municipal Government Act.

There will be a municipal by-election taking place on October 19, 2026. Nomination day will be September 21, 2026
